Coconut Oil For Reversing Alzheimer’s Disease Now Being Clinically Studied

Coconut oil is used in so many ways and all over the world because people know, the health benefits you get from it are simply amazing. 

Desperate from all medical attempts that were failing to slow her husband’s progressive dysfunction from Alzheimer’s, Dr. Mary Newport, has found that coconut oil saved his life and kept him from being put in a special home. This remarkable recovery from her husband has gone viral over the internet. Dr. Newport had wrote a best-seller book in 2011-12 called, “Alzheimer’s Disease: What if There Was a Cure?

Between her book and internet coverage, it started a grassroots movement internationally with people who have early symptoms of dementia, even just weak moments and brain fog, trying to help themselves and family relative that had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This has created a huge wave of testimonials and success reports. Even though these reports were a success, mainstream medicine wasn’t recognizing coconut oil as a helpful aid for any type of dementia or Alzheimer’s. 

Because there are no peer-reviewed studies over coconut oil, the Alzheimer’s Association and other various similar groups won’t mention or recommend coconut oil to sufferers of Alzheimer’s. A recent peer-reviewed study was conducted and published in progress with positive results.

Coconut Oil: Non-Alternative Drug Treatment Against Alzheimer’s Disease (published December 1, 2015 by Nutricion Hospitalaria) 

Conducted in Spain, which actually explains why this study had been done to start with, and being less restrictive on what they can study without any pharmaceutical funding they would be able to go ahead with a clinical trial. It has been found that alongside Spain, other EU nations, middle-eastern nations, including Israel have done quite a bit of research and studies on human’s during the application of medical marijuana, for an example.  The trial in Spain involved the overshadowing of Alzheimer’s patients of different ages and genders. They also included those with or without a diabetes diagnosis, to find if any consumption of coconut oil had an effect on lowering the mental dysfunction from Alzheimer’s. 

Cognitive testing was done before and after this trial to see if their was any changes. The intervention group had been fed 40ml of coconut oil daily, which comes to 2.7 tbsp. Three tablespoons or more, is recommended daily by experts depending on coconut oil tolerance in digestion or on the severity of dementia. Researchers went on to further noting that “a statistically significant increase in test score… and therefore an improvement in cognitive status, improving especially women’s, those without diabetes mellitus type II, and severe patients.”

The researchers in Spain had concluded that, “this study, although preliminary, demonstrated the positive influence of coconut oil at the cognitive level of patients with Alzheimer’s, this improvement being dependent on sex, presence or absence of diabetes and degree of dementia.” Another study supported by private funding, of course, on effects of coconut oil for Alzheimer’s has begun in Florida. Started in 2013, at the University of South Florida’s Health Byrd Alzheimer’s institute, located in Tampa.  In 2016, data will be expected to be published, however, there is word that a high success rate is happening. 

The Fallacy of No and Low-Fat Dieting

Let’s clear the issue going on about coconut oil having saturated fat in it. Clean saturated fats that are not hydrogenated or otherwise adulterated are necessary for overall and brain health. It’s not the evil source to heart disease and obesity. The famously-faulty Ancel Keys Seven Countries Study, was accepted completely by the cooking oil and margarine manufacturers, the medical establishment and media in the 1950’s. Crisco and many others, were given a platform to openly-sell their unhealthy and processed hydrogenated oils that do contain trans-saturated-fats to substitute butter, palm oil and coconut oil. Whats responsible for heart disease, obesity, and various autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, is semi-hydrogenated and hydrogenated oils with trans-fat. Adding to the the increase in obesity with cardiac issues are: refined carbohydrates, added high sugar and especially high fructose corn syrup. It remains at the top of disease morbidity, even with the low or no fat mania thats gone on for several decades long. 

Pharmaceutical Failures for Alzheimer’s

Apparently, no drug pharmaceutical company has been successful with anything but adding on other adverse side effects. This is exactly why Alzheimer’s disease is labeled as “untreatable” The pharmaceutical industry has nothing to offer that will help treat Alzheimer’s, so no facts or opinions are going to exist from the AMA’s perspective. 

A study has found that shockingly, that those who live with high-cholesterol counts, tend to live into their 80’s. So, these top hit drugs (Statins) end up causing more harm than good, than just reducing cholesterol levels, as they so claim in their commercials. 

Coconut Oil for Alzheimer’s Prevention and Reversal

From Dr. Stephanie Steneff: “The brain represents only 2% of the body’s total mass, but contains 25% of the total cholesterol. Cholesterol is required everywhere in the brain as an anti-oxidant, an electrical insulator (in order to prevent ion leakage), as a structural scaffold for the neural network, and a functional component of all membranes. Cholesterol is also utilized in the wrapping and synaptic delivery of the neurotransmitters. It also plays an important role in the formation and functioning of synapses in the brain.”

Coconut oil is much different than other saturated fats, actually fats that remain solid at normal room temperature, because it contains MCTs or medium chain triglycerides. Unlike long-chain triglycerides (LCTs), MCTs are digested much easily by the liver. Then, they are converted to ketones, which is a form of energy. LCTs or fatty acids don’t convert into ketones, that can be utilized by cells for energy consumption. It is the LCFAs or LCTs that are stored as fat.

Any cells in the brain that have any difficulty using insulin for glucose end up starving to death. Sections of the brain can become rendered useless as the lack of energy that is caused by the decreasing levels of glucose utilization. 

There is a similarity with diabetes type 2, with its cellular inability to even process insulin, or resistance to insulin, is actually a reason why Alzheimer’s or dementia is labeled as diabetes type 3. Ketones that are from the liver’s processing coconut oil MCTs, are the helping solution to diabetes type 3. Regardless of insulin resistance that tends to hinder glucose cellular metabolism, ketones have the ability to equip brain cells. 

Also, ketones are found to increase blood circulation in the brain.Ketones are easy to come and go. To maintain the energy levels of your cells, you will need to keep a steady diet of coconut oil, at a recommended quantity of three or more tablespoons daily. Our matter from our brains are essentially made form cholesterol. It is also coconut oil, like ketones, that can supply the brain energy even with glucose-insulin problems. To receive the benefits of increased energy and healthier brain structure, consume coconut oil daily.
