86 year old woman uses yoga to treat her scoliosis and completely transform her body

This amazing story of how a grandmother miraculously cured herself of her curved spine shows just how powerful yoga is for healing the body.

Scoliosis affects over 4 million people in the USA, and while it is usually caused by a bone abnormality at birth or a traumatic injury, in many cases doctors are unable to determine the cause. Treatment usually involves a spinal-correcting brace or even surgery, but 86 year old Anna Pesce took her back health into her own hands, with a miracle result.

Anna had suffered from back problems for a long time, but at the age of 86 it finally confined her to a wheelchair. Her health got so bad on a trip to Wagener, SC to visit her family members in 2014 that she was in constant pain the whole time, and was not able to enjoy the trip with her family.

“I had this horrible pain shooting up my back,” says Pesce. ““I had to be carried up the stairs and put into a wheelchair for the rest of my stay.”

Realising that the problem was going to only get worse, Pesce decided that something must be done, and that she wasn’t going to let the illness defeat her.

“I tried everything: acupuncture, a physical therapist and seeing a chiropractor,” she says. “You feel good temporarily, but (I’d be) in pain again soon after.”

Anna Pesce’s daughter has heard of the benefits of gentle exercise in relieving back pain and introduced her to Rachel Jesian, a certified yoga instructor and back specialist.Jesian started Anna off with simple exercises at first, but she was determined to give it her all, and progressed very quickly due to her determination.

After just one month, Anna could walk again.

“After two months, another big milestone was that (Anna) knew what poses to do whenever the usual pains would come up for her,” Jesien said. “For example, if she was having hip pain, she’d sit on a chair and do an ankle-to-knee pose.”

 Rachel Jesian had suffered from scoliosis herself, and had learned of back-restoration yoga to alleviate her own symptoms.

“I had to wear a back brace for five years and went to physical therapy every week, but this was the only thing that worked,” says Jesien.

Pesce says she owes her health to the power of yoga and urges other sufferers to do the same.

“I feel wonderful now because I can drive by myself and do the things I wasn’t able to do before,” Pesce says. “I would recommend this to other people.”
