If you're a regular reader here, you know how we feel about glyphosate, Roundup, and Monsanto. Did you know, though, that it may be in your food - and it may contribute to giving you cancer?

As Ecowatch notes, glyphosate is a toxic chemical that's been linked to a wide range of long-term health issues, including Alzheimer's, birth defects, various cancers, and dementia, among others.

And glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto's incredibly popular weedkiller Roundup, is found in many of our foods and even our water as a result of how frequently and widely it is sprayed. It's toxic to pretty much everything - with one notable exception: GMO crops that have been specially formulated to withstand it. That means farmers growing GMO crops can spray Roundup on their crops, knowing that it will kill everything else.

And so they do precisely that. Unfortunately, that often means that we then get that glyphosate in our food, as upwards of 80% of American corn, for instance, may be GMO crops.

And glyphosate has been proven to do bad things to our bodies, including changing our DNA. One Ecowatch study, for instance, found that parents' exposure to glyphosate increased the risk of their children developing brain cancer. And similar studies have connected glyphosate to a wide range of cancers.

A survey of a farming community of 65,000 people in Argentina that is regularly utilizing Roundup, has revealed that cancer rates are two to four times higher than the national average, in particular with relation to breast, prostate and lung cancers.

Of particular concern is the use of glyphosate just before harvesting crops such as wheat – also known as desiccating. According to The Organic and Non-GMO Report this is done to completely kill the crop one to two weeks before the harvest, which aids with the drying out of the grain. This pre-harvest spraying means that the level of glyphosate on the wheat is far higher than necessary – or desirable.

As a result, when those products are sent on to consumers, they're incredibly high in glyphosate levels - a fact to which most consumers are oblivious.

And the only way to avoid it? May just be making your own bread. Otherwise, you too are likely eating cancer bread - with no idea you're doing so.
