Strongest Earthquake In Decades Rocks Yellowstone National Park

YellowStone National Park is home to the largest super volcano on earth and it was just hit by an earthquake.

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Yellowstone National Park caused a social media buzz on Thursday, July 6, with some Twitter users declaring an apocalypse was coming.

The quake, which struck in western Montana at 12:30 p.m. local time, was followed by a series smaller quakes of magnitudes 4.9, 4.5, 3.9 and 4.4, according to the “USGS“https://www.usgs.gov/.

Many reported feeling a significant shaking that was strong enough to wake them up and rattle household items.

Others posted about the proximity of the earthquake to the park’s supervolcano and the potential consequences.

However, experts from the USGS were quick to downplay the earthquake.

Some users even made a link between the earthquake and a 6.9 quake that hit the Philippines, southwest of Taclobanon, the same day.
