Solar powered floating farm can produce 20 tons of vegetables every day

Organic farming has taken it to the next level.

From design practice, Forward Thinking Architecture, is a group of floating farms that have the ability to self-harvest rainwater and sunlight, along with desalinating sea water, and growing thousands of tons of fresh, organic vegetables annually.

The design was inspired by Chinese floating fish farms, where these rectangular units are 200x350 meters that are able to connect with other modules from walkways.

The waterways are used as a curtsy to the farming industry, as it enables farming to be more accessible. The invention would lessen the need to import food by restricting growth to only at the local level and approving lakes and rivers as “farmland.”

Every unit has three levels; The bottom floor is for aquaculture and desalination of water, roof is for solar panels, rainwater intake mechanisms and skylights, while the first floor is where hydroponic crops are grown.

It is projected that every module will grow around 8,152 tons of organic veggies annually and rake in 1,703 tons of fish.

These modules also work to connect to the power grid and energize local farms, while providing accessible organic food in every city across the world.
