Company Transforms Shipping Containers Into Economical Backyard Pools

Modpool's shipping container swimming pools are easy to install and set up, can be divided into both a pool and a hot tub, and are able to heat up 86 degrees F in one hour.

The newest shipping container craze is here, and it has nothing to do with creating a tiny home, urban farm, or shop. Instead, the fad is entirely concerned with turning shipping containers into affordable and appealing swimming pools.

As Craze reports, the idea to transform such an ordinary object into a backyard pool was first conjured by the Australian company Shipping Container Pools. Modpool, which is based in Canada, developed the concept further, however, to create pools that also feature windows. This aesthetic has set it apart from the competition.

Pools designed by Modpool are “relocatable” and boast a quick set up. Additionally, a divider can be used to create a temporary or permanent hot tub section. Because temperatures can increase by 86 degrees F in a single hour, one won’t have to wait long to take a soak or swim a few laps in their backyard pool.

Each shipping container pool ships ready to use, and all the pool equipment one could need is built in. Additionally, a high-tech Ultraviolet system keeps the water clean.

In an interview with Digital Trends, owner of Modpools Paul Rathnam, commented:
“With some light ground prep, power and gas access, you can simply plug and play.”

Modpools are available in 8′ x 20′ or 8′ x 40′ container sizes and are easy to install and transport. The Modpool also features heaters, jets, portholes and LED mood lighting – all of which can be controlled by one’s smartphones.

The pool is highly versatile and can be installed above ground with raised decking, at ground level, or partially underground with retaining walls. Because of this, it has been deemed highly versatile and easy to adapt to different backyard sizes.

As mentioned above, the window is what really sets the Modpool apart from competitors, mainly because it helps swimmers feel less claustrophobic. Commented Rathnam:

“When the idea of adding a window came to me, I knew I had to make it happen. The window was a major challenge but it was worth it. It opens the space and completely changes the swimming experience. The window defies the norm, taking a shipping container and making it into something special.”

Priced at $26,900 for an 8’x20’ shipping container, the Modpool is cheaper than other pools.
