Humans have long had an adversarial relationship with apex predators, including wolves, and so it was quite controversial when 14 wolves were reintroduced in Yellowstone National Park in 1995, where they had been extinct since 1995.




In the years since, while opposition to wolves in many quarters has remained high, the wolves have found ways to thrive. 



More than that, though, the reintroduction of this apex predator - long previously a part of the natural ecosystem of the area - has had profound effects on the natural order in and around Yellowstone.

No one could have predicted the full range of the changes - and if you don't see them for yourself, we doubt you'll believe them, either.
