The World's Fittest Grandmother: She Is 80 Years Old and Started Working Out at 56. This Is Her Secret.
If you've ever felt too old to do something or try something, we're here to tell you you're wrong - and Earnestine Shepherd is the best proof of that we've seen yet!
In 2010, Shepherd became the world's oldest female bodybuilder; now 80, she's still going strong, and shows no sign of slowing down.
Even crazier, Shepherd didn't even start exercising until she was 56! As a child, she was in a car accident, and her injuries meant she never participated in PE classes at school.
But, with the help of her sister, Velvet, she decided to get active later in life. Both unhappy with their bodies at the time, the sisters started working out together.
When her sister later passed from a brain aneurysm, Shepherd began struggling with both depression and panic attacks - at which point she renewed the pledge she'd made to her sister to motivate other people and land a spot in the Guinness' Book of World Records.
To this day, she still rises at 3 am daily, running nearly 80 miles each week, and lives on a strict calorie-controlled diet.
When asked about her success, though, Shepherd doesn't credit her training, but rather her will to "never give up."
Think about that next time you want to quit something.
Following is a video that relays eighty year-old Ernestine Shepherd’s inspirational story:
