Study: Getting 2nd Opinion From Doctor "Almost Always Bring New Diagnosis"

A study that was recently conducted, found that around 90% of patients who visit the Mayo Clinic for a ‘second opinion’ receive a whole new medical diagnosis.

Around 88% of people who visit the clinic in Minnesota looking for a second professional opinion, receive a new health problem to worry about.

Only 12 percent of the 286 Mayo Clinic patients that were tested, had their doctors diagnosis confirmed by medical staff. Many would be given a complete new diagnosis or one that is revised from the original condition.

Mayo Clinic says that the study had proved patients have a great chance of having treatment and prevent unnecessary operations by consulting with a medical professional about their health condition.

The clinic also says that in cases, having a second, separate opinion, other than from your primary doctor, can give families reassurance by saving them from an unnecessary diagnosis.
