How to Find Out What’s Making Your Stomach Hurt Using This ‘Belly Map’

Lots of times when your stomach or abdomen hurts, you have no idea why. And that makes sense - there are lots of reasons your abdomen might hurt.

Fortunately, we're here to help.

Location can be a major indicator as to what's causing your pain.

For instance, each of the following causes of abdominal pain presents differently:

  • Gallstones
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Kidney stones
  • Pancreatitis
  • Constipation

So first, when you feel pain, try to determine what may be causing it. It could be an upset stomach, characterized by swelling or inflammation of the stomach, and caused by things you eat or drink. Or it could be a simple virus or allergic reaction to certain food or drink item. The most common symptoms of such upset stomachs might be heartburn, gas, nausea, vomiting, belching, chills, or an increase in bowel movements, including diarrhea. If you're experiencing other symptoms, though, or your symptoms prolong, it may be something more serious, in which case you may need to see a doctor.
