Consumer Beware! High Fructose Corn Syrup has been renamed and is now being marketed as a "Natural Sweetener"

High Fructose Corn Syrup is hiding in your health food.

Consumers have become smarter about their food choices and are demanding healthier food options. Every food company is “labelling 100% natural” on every box of food, regardless of whats inside.

Apparently, there is a new name for this harmful chemical, and big companies are covering up harmful ingredients under the guise of a different name. General Mills’ Vanilla Chex is commonly sold in grocery chain stores and is an updated version. On the front of the cereal box, you will see a “no high fructose corn syrup” (HFCS), but when you flip to the other side, “fructose” is in the ingredients label.

It’s a huge problem, and the Corn Refiners Association (CRA) believe it is a sneaky trick being played on consumers. ‘Fructose’ is another term to denote one product that used to be called HFCS-90, which translates to 90% pure fructose.

When compared to ‘regular’ HFCS, which has 42-55% fructose, you will recognize why the cereal giant is keeping consumers blind from their trick.

CRA states:

A third product, HFCS-90, is sometimes used in natural and ‘light’ foods, where very little is needed to provide sweetness. Syrups with 90% fructose will not state high fructose corn syrup on the label [anymore], they will state ‘fructose’ or ‘fructose syrup.'

They get away with murder by:

Simply eliminating the high fructose corn syrup designation for the laboratory sweetener that’s nine-tenths fructose and calling it what it really is: fructose. And that’s how a processed-food product like Vanilla Chex that contains “fructose”, a substance that, according to the corn refiners, used to be called HFCS-90, can now declare itself to be high fructose corn syrup-free.
