Never Buy Salt Again To Melt Ice, Use This Simple Mixture Using Common Household Items
With winter upon us, all the icy dangers we hate are back - but we're here to tell you we have a solution! With only a handful of common household ingredients, you can easily make your own ice melt.
Winter ice can pose so many risks, but conventional ice melt is both expensive and full of chemicals. We're here to offer a better alternative: a do-it-yourself ice melt that you can whip simply and inexpensively from all-natural ingredients you likely already have around your home.
All you need are the three following ingredients:
- ½ gallon of warm water
- 6 drops of dish soap
- 2 ounces of rubbing alcohol
First, fill your container with the warm water. Add the dish soap, add the rubbing alcohol, mix it up, and go give it a try!
Watch the video to see what we mean - within seconds, you can see the hard ice dissolving into much softer slush. You’re not going to slip on that stuff, and you can use it anywhere you need to take care of pesky ice.
TIP: Put the mixture in a spray bottle container for easy application. You can also use this mixture on your car to help get rid of the frost on your windshield.
As ice melts like salt can negatively impact the environment and erode your driveway, this is a much safer alternative.
As CleanLink.com notes: “In addition to the landscape, the second most visible environmental impact of excess salt usage is damage caused to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, parking decks, sidewalks, doorways and even flooring. Chloride in salts, whether they are in a blended product or not, increase the conductivity of water and accelerate corrosion. All salts, when used in excess, can deteriorate concrete that isn’t properly cured or sealed, and can also cause corrosion and damage to reinforcing rods and structural steel, which results in compromised structural integrity.”
