Patagonia Made $10 Million On Black Friday And Donated Every Cent To Save The Environment
Far away from the greedy capitalism that was going on in the rest of America that day, outdoor clothing brand Patagonia donated all of their 'Black Friday' profits to grassroots organisations.
The company's website said the “fundraiser for the earth” was a massive success. The company only expected to make $2 million on the day, but actually made a massive $10 million, all of it going towards protecting us from an ever increasingly polluted earth.
The company said:
The enormous love our customers showed to the planet on Black Friday enables us to give every penny to hundreds of grassroots environmental organizations working around the world.
Patagonia spokeswoman Corley Kenna told The Huffington Post that the idea to fund raise for the Earth was sparked after Donald Trump became President-elect. She said they needed a way to show people how important protecting the earth is in unsteady times.
“We felt that these were issues that united us and I think this is a demonstration that people agree. Our customers agree,” said Kenna.
Donald Trump believes that climate change is a myth and that certain environmental crises are not as serious as they really are, making environmental protection in the few years to come a scary issue.
The company said:
The science is telling us loud and clear: We have a problem. By getting active in communities, we can raise our voices to defend policies and regulations that will protect wild places and wildlife, reduce carbon emissions, build a modern energy economy based on investment in renewables, and, most crucially, ensure the United States remains fully committed to the vital goals set forth in the Paris Agreement on climate change.
Patagonia had already made a name for itself with enviro-concsious customers as they already give 1% of their profit to green causes all year round.
