Thousands of Students Across the Country are Walking out of School to Protest Trump Victory

Hundreds of students from Bishop O'Dowd and Berkeley High School staged a walk out yesterday to protest Donald Trump winning the Presidential Election

Californian students yesterday expressed their outrage at the result of the election, walking out of classes and forming a march outside. Protests by students also occurred in Boulder High School in Colorado, Carl Hayden High School in Phoenix, Arizona and at the University of Texas, with hundreds of students marching through downtown Austin

The protests were documented by social media, and on Periscope, which showed students waving Mexican flags, raising their fists in the air and giving emotional outcries against the result. Students and young people have reacted as a result of feeling disenfranchised by the result, stating that Trump's ideas do not fit with their own ideals.

One student said during the protest “Donald Trump may be president, but we are gong to make sure that this man, that he is going to prioritize the well being of the people, so please join us in this fight,”

“He wants us to turn against each other,” a female student said, choking back tears. “I just want to emphasize that as young people it’s our job to continue to fight like our parents fought for us.”

While the schools have not themselves commented on the walkouts, Berkeley High School posted pictures of the demonstrations on their Twitter account under the hashtags of “#GoJackets #BerkeleyHigh #BHSWalkOut.”

There has been a public outcry all over the U.S and in countries all over the world to the result of the election, many see Trump as a symbol of misogyny, racism and outdated values which many of the younger generations do not share. Protests also occurred in New York outside Trump Tower, with hundreds of people present.

Last Tuesday walkout were staged with Arizona students in North High School and Maryvale High School in this case the walkouts were to encourage people not to vote for Trump, or Sherriff Joe Arpaio, who was recently convicted of contempt-of-court after he refused to stop racially profiling Latino Americans. In the results however Arpaio was defeated by Democrat Paul Penzone by nearly ten per cent.
