This Popular Moisturizer Applied to Mice for 17 Weeks Developed 69% More Cancerous Tumors

A study has found that certain popular moisturisers can increase your risk of skin cancer.

Dermabase, Dermovan, Eucerin Original Moisturizing Cream, or Vanicream have all been found to significantly increase the rate of tumor formation and increase in tumor size in lab mice.

Lab mice were all given the moisturisers over a 17 week period, and the total number of histologically characterized tumors rose by 69 percent.

According to the study, as reported by Green Med Info:

The results indicate that several commercially available moisturizing creams increase the rate of formation and number of tumors when applied topically to UVB-pretreated high-risk mice. Further studies are needed to determine the effects of topical applications of moisturizing creams … in humans.

The study was published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, it stated that commonly used moisturizing creams containing mineral oil are tumorigenic when applied topically to UVB-pretreated high-risk mice. The brands tested were:
  •     Dermabase
  •     Dermovan
  •     Eucerin Original Moisturizing Cream
  •     Vanicream

The one thing these creams have in common is that they contain mineral oil. The researchers concluded that rate of tumor formation significantly increased, as did the tumor size per mouse when a 100mg of one of the moisturisers was applied one a day, five days a week for 17 weeks.

The authors said:

The results indicate that several commercially available moisturizing creams increase the rate of formation and number of tumors when applied topically to UVB-pretreated high-risk mice. Further studies are needed to determine the effects of topical applications of moisturizing creams on sunlight-induced skin cancer in humans.

Because of this highlighted negative effect of mineral oil on UVB exposed skin, the risk of tumours forming is even greater when coupled with sun-exposure, and worse still, plenty of sun protection lotions have mineral oil as an ingredient.

One 2008 study noted:

Mineral paraffins might be the largest contaminant of our body, widely amounting to 1gram per person and reaching 10 grams in extreme cases.

You absorb toxins far easier through your skin than by food or other sources. The skin very easily absorbs potential toxins due to how thin it is compared to other organs. The toxins are absorbed straight into the bloodstream without having to go through your body first and are not broken down by enzymes in the stomach.

There are natural alternatives to toxin laden moiturisers like the one outlined in this article, pure emu oil and pure coconut oil are great alternatives which are 100% natural and toxin free.
