Denver Votes YES To Cannabis Consumption In Bars & Restaurants!
Denver, Colorado has become the first city where bars, restaurants, and other public establishments can allow their patrons to use cannabis.
Colorado has been one of the leading places in the U.S. where leaglising marijuana has been supported heavily by the population, and they have succeeded again with the controversial Proposition 300.
The law, which is the first of its kind will allow restaurants, bars, gyms and a variety of other establishments the right for its customers to use cannabis inside the facility.
Although it seems like a huge step (and it is) there are still several hoops that any business owner who wants to proceed with this will have to jump through. Before filing for the permit that will allow customers to use cannabis, business owners must first gain approval from their surrounding neighbors. If they are met with any opposition, they will not be granted the permit.
Customers will also not be allowed to smoke the cannabis, but it is allowed to be taken in other forms, although the owners will have the choice of making an outdoor smoking area.
If the business in question is a shop that sells food and dink, the shop will not be allowed to sell cannabis to the customers, rather the customers will have to bring their own, owing to the fact there is still a law prohibiting the selling of cannabis in the U.S.
Denver cannabis consultant and campaign manager for Proposition 300, Emmett Reistroffer, believes that despite the regulations put in place, this new law is a great way to extend the recreational cannabis laws and give cannabis users the freedom they deserve, she said:
"It’s the sensible thing to do. This is about personal responsibility and respecting adults who want to have a place to enjoy cannabis."
The idea being that the more cannabis consumption is normalised, the better people will be with dealing with it. It is widely documented that when a drug is legalised, the negative aspects surrounding it are reduced massively.
It is unknown how many Denver businesses will be applying for the permit, and how many of those will be successful, but there has already been one winner, the Denver local government who stand to make a good profit from the taxes of the newly legalised cannabis laws.
