Turmeric is a well-known spice that originated in Indian and Chinese cooking but has recently been making headlines at the next all-purpose remedy. 

Rich in antioxidants, Turmeric has amazing anti-inflammatory benefits, has anti-ageing properties, can help protect the brain from neurodegeneration and can even help fight cancer. 

The following study will surely convince you that if you don't already, to keep a healthy stock of turmeric in your kitchen pantry. 


The study has been published in the American Journal of Cardiology, and it states that urmeric extract can decrease risks of heart attack by 56%. This amazing discovery is backed up by a previous study, published in the Nutrition Research journal in 2012 that agreed directly eating or supplementing the spice can improve an individuals cardiovascular health as much as aerobic exercise. 


The results have been singled down to the primary polyphenol in this particular spice, named curcmin. Curcumin gives turmeric its vivid color, and holds the active ingredient that is responsible for boosting vascular function. 

Curcumin has been used for its benefits on postmenopausal women who may be at risk of cardiovascular problems. 


If you want to take advantage of these findings, and utilize the power of turmeric to help aid a healthy heart, it is recommended that you take 150mg of turmeric extract (this is equal to 25mg of curcumin) everyday for 8 weeks to boost heart function. 

The concentration of curcumin in turmeric is around 2%, this should be kept in mind if you are to take pure turmeric instead of supplements. As well as being taken independently, adding a pinch of turmeric to dished whilst cooking is an easy way to introduce it, as well as adding it to teas and juices.

Find an activity you like, such as brisk walking, cycling, dancing or water aerobics. Or for more vigorous activities chose running, jogging, swimming, tennis, cycling over 10 mph.
