Doctors Urge Parents To Save Their Kid’s Baby Teeth! Here’s Why!

Doctors in the US are urging patients to save their children's baby teeth when they fall out to preserve and harvest precious stem cells.

In 2003, researchers at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research concluded that baby teeth can contain valuable stem cells. Stem cells are cells have the potential to turn into just about any cell type imaginable.

In theory, stem cells from these teeth can actually be used to repair the damaged cells in locations such as the pancreas, heart or brain.

And the best part? Stem cells from children's 'milk' teeth are among the most powerful in the human body. They proliferate much faster and for longer periods of time than all other stem cells.

Normally there is long wait for a bone marrow donor. This removes the need to wait if your child ever needs stem cells. It also increases the likelihood that their body will accept the stem cells – something that’s not always certain when they come from a donor.

As stem cells age, they become less powerful. That is why it is children's first teeth that the doctors are interested in.

How To Sign Up

There are already a number of global services that will store your child’s baby tooth for a fee. Take, for example, Store-A-Tooth.

They partner with your dentist to collect the tooth and have it shipped overnight to their facility in a temperature-controlled kit. Once the tooth is in their hands, they extract the stem cells and place them in a culture where they can grow.

The tooth might still contain valuable stem cells even if it fell out a while ago!
